How to use Volar
Volar compares the price of the same flight across hundreds of airlines and agencies, shows you where it costs least, and sends you there to book. We don’t sell tickets and we never charge you. Here’s how to use it, in about two minutes.
The three steps
1. Tell us where you want to go
Type a destination into the search, or tap any price on the map. If you don’t have a destination in mind, the map shows the whole world sorted by what it costs to get there from your city.
2. We search hundreds of sites at once
We query airlines and agencies in parallel and merge the results into one list. It takes a few seconds because these are live prices, not a copy saved last week.
3. You book on the official site
When you pick a fare we hand you to the airline or agency that has it. You pay there, under their terms and their customer service. Volar isn’t part of the transaction.
The price map
The homepage is a map of the lowest fare to each destination from your city. It answers the question a traditional search box can’t: “where can I go for this budget?”
The colours mean something
Green bubbles are the cheapest third of what’s on screen, purple the middle, muted grey the priciest third. The thresholds come from the real prices in each search, so they work the same for 40 US$ hops and 1,200 US$ long-hauls.
Tap a price to see the real thing
A bubble is the lowest fare we know of for that route. Tapping it runs a live search for your dates and shows the actual flights, with times, stops and baggage.
Filter before you decide
Nonstop only, maximum budget and approximate flight hours. The map redraws instantly, so you can see at a glance what fits your limit.
The flight search
If you already know where you’re going, the classic search gives you the full list with every filter.
Sorting isn’t filtering
“Best” balances price against duration and is usually the right first look. “Cheapest” ignores how long you travel. “Fastest” ignores what it costs. Changing the sort never removes a flight; filters do.
Flexible on dates?
Below the results you’ll find the reference fare for each day around your date. Shifting departure by a day or two is the single biggest lever on this page.
Check the bag before the price
Every card says whether the fare includes a checked bag or carry-on only. A fare 30 US$ cheaper stops being cheaper when the bag costs 60 US$ at the airport.
Awkward layovers are flagged
We call out overnight layovers, very long ones, connections that make you re-check your bag, and airport changes within the same city. These are the things a price never shows and a trip never forgets.
What Volar doesn’t do
We don’t sell tickets
We compare and hand you to the seller. Changes, refunds and booking problems are settled with whoever sold you the ticket.
We never charge you
No fee, no account, no signup. When you book, the destination site pays us; the price you pay is theirs.
We can’t hold a price
Fares move several times a day and sometimes vanish while you’re looking at them. If the number works for you, that’s the moment.
What actually lowers the price
Fly midweek
Leaving Tuesday or Wednesday usually costs 15–25% less than Friday or Sunday, on the same route with the same airline.
Move the date, not the destination
Before giving up on a trip, try ±3 days. A difference of 100 US$ or more on the same route is common.
Look at neighbouring airports
In cities with more than one airport, switching terminals changes the fare. We search by city, so you see them together.
Not too early, not too late
For flights within your region, one to three months ahead is usually the best window; for intercontinental, two to six months. The last two weeks are almost always the most expensive.
Frequently asked questions
Is Volar free?
Yes, always. No fee and no signup. When you book on the seller’s site, that site pays us a commission; the price you see is what you’d pay going direct.
Are the prices real?
They’re live prices fetched when you search. They can change between seeing and booking, because fares move several times a day. When something doesn’t match at the seller, it’s almost always because the seat at that price sold.
Who do I book with?
The airline or agency that has the fare. We hand you to their site and you pay there. Volar doesn’t process payments or issue tickets.
Do I need an account?
No. No signup, no password. We remember your departure city in your own browser so you don’t have to repeat it.
Why do some destinations have no photo?
We only use real photographs of the place, with credit and licence. When we don’t have a verified photo of a city we show colour instead — a picture of the wrong place would be worse than none.
What if something goes wrong with my flight?
Contact whoever sold you the ticket: the airline or the agency. They hold your booking. Volar can’t see, change or cancel reservations made on other sites.
