Getting around Cancun
Cancún Airport (CUN) sits about 20 km from downtown and the Hotel Zone; the ADO bus, authorized taxis and private transfers are the most reliable options (skip unofficial taxis). In town, the R-1/R-2 bus runs the length of the Hotel Zone for a few pesos and is the cheapest way to get around.
Where to stay in Cancun
- Hotel Zone — The beach strip with the big resorts, nightlife and Caribbean views.
- Downtown (El Centro) — Local Cancún: markets, cheap eats and lower prices.
- Puerto Juárez — Ferry point to Isla Mujeres, calm and seaside.
How much does it cost?
Cancún is pricier than the rest of Mexico: expect tourist prices in the Hotel Zone, while downtown is far cheaper to eat and sleep. A mid-range budget runs about 60–120 USD a day excluding a resort hotel.
Is it safe?
Cancún is one of Mexico’s safest tourist destinations; common sense is enough in the Hotel Zone. Use only authorized taxis, respect the beach surf-warning flags, and watch your belongings in bars and clubs.
